Spain – Customary Names

It is not customary for a   person to have a middle name in Spain but, it is common to have two first names such as Maria Jose.   Additionally, it is customary for a person to have two surnames. However, this is not because a married woman has added her husband’s surname to her maiden name.   Actually, a married woman does not usually take her husband’s last name.   When she was named, she was given the first last name of her father and her mother's maiden name.

Somalia - Famine

In July 2011, the UN declared a famine in several areas in Somalia.   About 258,000 people lost their lives during this time, and thousands more were displaced.   This declaration was not made since the previous outbreak in 1991 – 1992.

The Solomon Islands – Group of Islands

The Solomon Islands are a group of nine hundred and night two islands in the South Pacific Ocean.   About four hundred and fifty of these islands are occupied, including six major islands.   The Solomon Islands are between three to five and a half hours flight from Australia, depending on the starting point in Australia.

Slovenia – Ljubljana, Half-Way Point

The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana, and it is pronounced Lyoo-blyah-nuh/ Lyoub lyana.   It is located about halfway between Venice in Italy and Vienna in Austria.   That is, if you are travelling from Venice to Vienna or vice versa, you will enter Ljubljana on your way to your final destination.    So, if you are travelling through the area, take a moment to observe some of the stunning architectures in this capital.

Slovakia – Free on Train

On the 1 st of January 1993, this country, Czechoslovakia split and became the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.   Here in Slovakia, children under the age of sixteen and seniors over sixty-two years old can ride the train for free.   Additionally, students under twenty-six and pensioners under sixty-two years old and are permanent residents or citizens of the European Union (EU) can also travel on the train for free. Singapore – On the Money

The lyrics of Singapore’s National Anthem are printed in microprint on the $1000 bill.   The bill is purple, and it is in the Portrait Series of notes, which debut on the 9 th of September 1999.   Singapore also has four official languages, and they are English, Mandarin, Tamil and Malay.

Sierra Leone – Freetown

Freetown is the capital of Sierra Leone, and it was founded in 1787, by freed Black slaves from North America and Jamacia.   English is the country's official language, but Krio is also spoken here and it is an English base Creole that is spoken by the descendants of the freed Jamaican slaves.

Seychelles - Country of Large

Seychelles has two types of large animals living here, and they are the Coconut Crab and the Tortoise.   The Coconut Crab is the world’s largest land crab, and it is about three feet long and weighs about eight to nine pounds.   Additionally, it has ten legs, and the two front-most legs are the largest.      Esmeralda is a tortoise, and he (not a typo), weighs over six hundred and seventy pounds. Senegal - Hippopotamus

In Senegal, the hippopotamus is an endangered species.   They are said to be one of the most aggressive creatures globally, and they are the second-largest land animal.   In ten years, that is, between 2006 and 2016 in Gouloumbou, at least twenty-five fishermen were killed by hippos, and many more people were injured.

Saudi Arabia - Oil

In 1938, oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia by the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco).   However, it was only in 1973 that Saudi Arabia obtained twenty percent (20%) stock in the company.   Then in 1988, the country purchased the company.
