Thailand – National Sport

Thailand’s National Sport is Muay Thai.   It is also referred to as Thai Boxing.   In Muay Thai, Clinching is allowed, but only if the opponents are facing each other and one of them are “fighting” in the clinch.   Many of us usually call it hugging, but the technical name is clinching.

Tajikistan – Public Affection

In August of 2017, a police officer was fired. His boss was relegated to a lower position because the officer stopped and questioned a couple for kissing in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.   In October last year, a few taxi drivers in Dushanbe posted “signs” banning hugs and kisses in the taxis.  

Taiwan – Toilet Restaurant

In 2004, in Taipei city, Modern Toilet Restaurant opened its door to the public.   Although customers sit on real toilets and at tables shaped like toilet bowls, and soft drinks are served in urinals-shaped cups, this is a restaurant for people.   There are at least four of these restaurants in Taiwan. Sweden – Waste Handling

Only about one percent of waste in Sweden goes to the landfill.   Additionally, the country imports about 1.3 million tonnes of waste every year from Norway and the United Kingdom.   The other ninety-nine percent is recycled or used for energy in the country.   Note: The Local se https://www.thelocal.se/20181026/sweden-waste-management-importing-waste-incineration

Swaziland – Eswatini

In 2018, Swaziland underwent an official name change.   It is the Kingdom of Eswatini.   Eswatini for short.   The country is also governed under the Absolute Monarchy system and is one of about six or seven countries that are under this form of government.

Sri Lanka – Language and Tea

The official and national languages of Sri Lanka are Sinhala and Tamil.   Have you ever heard of Ceylon tea?   Well, Sri Lanka was previously named Ceylon.   So, whenever you see this name on tea packages, it’s highly possible that it came from here.   This country is one of the top five producers of tea in the world.
