Gabon – Voting Age

In many countries, the age voting requirement in a general election is eighteen years old.   Some countries even have theirs at sixteen years of age.   Gabon, on the other hand, has an age requirement of 21 years old.

France – Reduce Food Waste

In 2016, France became the first country globally and, at present, the only government to ban supermarkets from throwing away or destroying unsold foods. They must donate it to food banks and charities. Fiji – A Group of Islands

Ethiopia – It’s 2012 in 2019

The Ethiopian Calendar is different from the Gregorian Calendar and the latter is what most of the world goes by.   The Ethiopian Calendar has thirteen months in a year, while the Gregorian one has twelve months.   Currently, the year in Ethiopia is 2012.   The following links may be helpful in shedding more light on this. Estonia – Wife Carrying

Have you ever heard of the annual Wife Carrying World Championship?  From 1998 to 2008, Estonia has consecutively won the competition.  This year it will be held on the 5-6 th , July and it will be held in Finland.  Perhaps this year, Estonia will win the title once again.    

Eritrea – First Medal

Zersenay Tadese was born on the 8th February 1982, and he was the first person to win an Olympic medal for his country. For about eight years, he held the world record in the half marathon, and he also has several awards from competing in other competitions.

Equatorial Guinea – The President

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has been the president of Equatorial Guinea since 3 rd August 1979.  He is the second President of the country.   The first president was overthrown and later executed.   President Mbasogo is the second longest-serving national leader, who is not “royalty.” 

El Salvador – Hmm

Last month,  Maria de Transito Orellana, Cinthia Rodriguez and Alba Rodriguez were freed from jail.  Both Alba Rodriguez and Maria de Transito Orellana served nine years and Cinthia Rodriguez more than eleven years of a thirty-year sentence. Egypt - Pyramids

Although they do not hold the record for having the most pyramids globally, Egypt has many.  There are some conflicting reports as to how many pyramids there are.  Some say there are eighty, while others say one hundred and thirty-eight as of 2008.  One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World or Seven Wonders of the World is the Great Pyramid of Giza, and it is in Egypt.  This is the only remaining Seven Wonders.  The others have been destroyed in various ways.  Most pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs and their queens. Ecuador – A Long Life

Maria Esther Heredia Lecaro de Capovilla was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on the 14 th  of September 1889.  She died on the 27th of August 2006.  She died at 116 years, 347 days old.   Guinness World Records stated that she was the world’s oldest living person from the 29th of  May 2004 to the time of her death in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

East Timor – Independence(s)?

In the 1600s Portugal invaded East Timor, and in 1975 it withdrew its hold on the country.  A short civil war quickly followed, and the Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor proclaimed the country as an independent one. However, about a month later, Indonesia invaded the country and proclaimed it its 27 th Providence.  It is said that this rule is responsible for the death of at least 200,000.
