Estonia – Wife Carrying

Have you ever heard of the annual Wife Carrying World Championship?  From 1998 to 2008, Estonia has consecutively won the competition.  This year it will be held on the 5-6th, July and it will be held in Finland.  Perhaps this year, Estonia will win the title once again.

Andorra – A Shared Country

Andorra is sandwiched between France and Spain, and it is co-governed by the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell, who is in Spain.  Although Andorra has accommodations for a few helicopters, there are no airports here.  In fact, its closest airports are in France and Spain.  Therefore, those desiring to visit this country must travel through France or Spain and then travel by land, to get here. Perhaps due to sharing governmental powers, this country also shares the postal system.  France’s post boxes in this country are yellow, while Spain’s are red.

Maldives - Rejoins

In 1982, Maldives joined the Commonwealth. However, in 2016, the country left it, which was in response to the Commonwealth’s suspension warning. The Maldives’ government claimed that the Commonwealth “sought to become an active participant in the Maldives' domestic political discourse, which is contrary to the principles of the charters of the UN and the Commonwealth.” Then, on the 1st February 2020, under the Ibrahim Mohamed Solih government, the country rejoined the Commonwealth.  Note: The Commonwealth https://thecommonwealth.org/our-member-countries/maldives
