Ecuador – A Long Life

Maria Esther Heredia Lecaro de Capovilla was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on the 14th of September 1889.  She died on the 27th of August 2006.  She died at 116 years, 347 days old.  
Guinness World Records stated that she was the world’s oldest living person from the 29th of May 2004 to the time of her death in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Belarus – Rhombicuboctahedron Building

The top part of the National Library of Belarus in Minsk is in the shape of a Rhombicuboctahedron. That is, it has eight triangular and eighteen square faces. It is said to be one of the best libraries in the world. The National Library of Belarus opened in 1922. However, on the 16th June 2006 a new building, which took several years to complete, was opened. The library has over 8 million items in it, and this includes over 70,000 manuscripts, graphics, visual and audio documents. Guatemala – Currency

The Guatemalan Quetzal is this country’s legal currency.   The word quetzal is from the country’s national bird, the Resplendent Quetzal.   Many years ago, the tail feathers of these beautiful birds were used as currency.
