Libya – Alcohol

The sale and consumption of alcohol are illegal in Libya. This law was passed by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi shortly after he became the head of the country in 1969.
However, in 2013, fifty-one (51) people died and over three hundred (300) others were poison by methanol as a result of drinking home-made alcohol.
Some of the side effects of methanol poisoning are blindness, seizures, kidney failure and death.
