Montenegro – Independent

Montenegro became independent from Serbia on the 3rd June 2006.  Before its recent independence, the country was known as the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.

The Guatemalan Quetzal is this country’s legal currency.   The word quetzal is from the country’s national bird, the Resplendent Quetzal.   Many years ago, the tail feathers of these beautiful birds were used as currency.
