Haiti - Tragedy

On the 12th January 2010, an earthquake with a 7.0 magnitude hit this Caribbean island, killing about 217.000 people. As the Haitian people grappled with this tragedy, the country had a Cholera outbreak in October of this same year. This outbreak killed nearly 9000 people.

Then, in July of the following year, a US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the United Nations’ (UN) peacekeepers from Nepal were the most likely cause of Haiti’s cholera outbreak.

However, in 2015 a US Federal court ruled that the United Nations has legal immunity, and therefore it cannot be sued for the Cholera outbreak. Then, in 2016, the UN admits its part in the 2010 outbreak.

Burkina Faso – In Need

Many countries around the world are advising their citizens not to visit Burkina Faso, at this time, unless it is an essential trip. It is mainly due to the unrest in the country. The is a country faced with many troubles. Citizens and visitors alike are being killed, yet travellers ignore these government-issued advisories and go headlong into the country.  In December 2018, the government here declared a state of emergency for specific places in the country. And earlier this year, they extended this emergency by six months. In January 2019, the Prime Minister and his cabinet quit. Andorra – A Shared Country

Andorra is sandwiched between France and Spain, and it is co-governed by the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell, who is in Spain.  Although Andorra has accommodations for a few helicopters, there are no airports here.  In fact, its closest airports are in France and Spain.  Therefore, those desiring to visit this country must travel through France or Spain and then travel by land, to get here. Perhaps due to sharing governmental powers, this country also shares the postal system.  France’s post boxes in this country are yellow, while Spain’s are red.
